Phoenix P–12 Community College recognises the importance of providing an extensive range of experiences beyond the classroom for students. These co-curricula experiences motivate and challenge students to develop identity, creativity and leadership qualities.
Sport and Outdoor Education
The College is recognised nationally as an outstanding sports program school. With Exemplar/Specialist Sports School status students are able to participate at an elite level. Students regularly represent the College at international, national, state and regional levels both in teams and individually. The programs are designed to enable all students to engage and experience success. The College House system promotes healthy competition and participation. The outdoor education program challenges students with activities that include camping, surfing, rock climbing, survival and self-reliance in the outdoors environment.
A stimulating program of performing arts enhances the life of all students at Phoenix Beyond the classroom students participate in instrumental music tuition and ensembles. The College is a regular participant in the Rock Eisteddfod, winning a number of awards. The College Musical has become a highlight of the school calendar with the many and varied talents of the students showcased.
The Army Cadet Unit gives students at Phoenix P-12 Community College unsurpassed opportunities to lead and achieve. The Cadet Unit has an exciting program, from camps and other bivouacs to more official roles in the wider Ballarat community.
The Phoenix P-12 Community College Unit provides the shrine guard each year for the Ballarat Vietnam Veterans’ Day parade, as well as parading in Ballarat on ANZAC Day and other ceremonial occasions.
An International Perspective
Phoenix P-12 Community College has many links with the global community. Regular international exchanges are undertaken for the students and staff. The College has been a participant in the World Challenge for many years, enabling students to experience learning in destinations as diverse as Vietnam and Nepal. The F1 in Schools Program provides an international stage for students to showcase their technical racing prowess.
